Company is a complex organization operating in multiple locations with multiple programs serving multiple age groups, yet is banded by one unifying feature: Community. This is a compelling opportunity for a seasoned chief executive to assume leadership of a highly regarded organization, build upon its legacy of expanding services and initiatives, and lay out a bold vision and strategy for the future. The new CEO will have the pleasure of stewarding a passionate, collaborative, high-performance organizational culture; the benefit of strong brand recognition with government leaders; and the opportunity to form additional strategic relationships with new partners and funders.

The CEO will report to the MNC Board of Directors, will have responsibility for a staff of over 200 employees, and will directly supervise the COO, CFO, Chief Program Officer, and Chief Policy & External Affairs Officer. As an organization administering a federal Head Start program--and as the largest provider in San Francisco--the CEO also receives direction from the Head Start Parent Policy Council.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leadership and Management
    • Lead the organization to and through its next era of growth, inspiring both internal and external stakeholders to support and advance the mission of MNC
    • Develop and implement MNC’s strategic plan, in collaboration with staff and board as relevant; maintain and communicate a clear vision to all staff
    • Maintain a positive, collaborative, mission-oriented organizational culture which celebrates, attracts, and retains diverse, high-caliber staff and supports ongoing growth and development
    • Manage and closely collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to deliver on all organizational goals
    • Liaise closely with the MNC Board of Directors through clear, transparent, and regular reports, meetings, and presentations
  • Program Oversight
    • Oversee the delivery of high-quality, culturally-sensitive services consistent with MNC’s mission and values, in collaboration with the CPO and other program staff
    • Identify and pursue opportunities for innovation that support MNC’s mission
    • Support ongoing learning and evaluation to ensure maximum program impact
  • External Relations and Policy
    • Serve as the primary ambassador and chief evangelist for MNC in the community
    • Identify, pursue, and steward strategic partnerships with other organizations, especially insofar as they increase capacity in the social services ecosystem
    • Contribute to government policy initiatives related to MNC’s mission and in support of greater systemic change for its constituent communities
  • Fund Development
    • Maintain and strengthen relationships with critical government funding agencies
    • Diversify and increase MNC’s fundraising revenue, especially from corporate, foundation, and major individual donors
    • Identify, solicit, and secure funding sources, and steward relationships with donors in collaboration with the development team
  • Finance and Administration
    • Develop and manage MNC’s budget and ensure short- and long-term financial sustainability through close partnership with the CFO
    • Oversee government contracts, including application, compliance, and renewal
    • Carefully manage real estate initiatives from end to end
    • Oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures and the maintenance of internal infrastructure through close partnership with the COO

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of experience leading in a non-profit social services organization or comparable governmental agency or for-profit enterprise
  • Experience working with multicultural communities
  • Sophisticated and inspirational leadership style; personal charisma and gravitas
  • Executive level business acumen, including ability to manage complex real estate landscape
  • Experience forging strategic relationships in support of capacity building, fundraising, and policy initiatives
  • Superb writing and communication skills
  • Deep personal integrity and dedication to the mission; strong understanding of principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice
  • Master’s degree or higher in non-profit, business, or public administration preferred
  • Languages: dual-language English-Spanish preferred
