A member within the Office of the Chief Investment Officer serves as Agent for the Employee Benefit Review Committee which is the named fiduciary on behalf of several Wells Fargo & Company sponsored employee benefit plans, including the company’s 401(k) Plan with over $50 billion in assets as well as the Cash Balance pension plan with $12 billion in invested assets. As Agent, this individual is charged with recommending and overseeing all investment related activity and investment managers for these and other retirement plan related programs. In this capacity, the Agent is seeking a senior analyst to assist in the duties required which include developing and maintaining the asset allocation strategy for the Pension Plan as well as selection and monitoring of underlying investment managers for separately managed accounts, mutual funds, and collective funds through the implementation of a disciplined due diligence process designed to improve the probability of a better investment outcome for Wells Fargo Team members and for the employee benefit plans of Wells Fargo.

The Senior Analyst will play a critical role in the analysis and monitoring process for Mutual Funds, Collective Funds and Separately Managed Accounts used in the Wells Fargo Employee benefit plans. Responsibilities include:

  • Performing initial and on-going investment manager due diligence, including conducting on-site meetings with institutional money managers
  • Asset class research coverage, which includes maintaining a high conviction list of managers in the assigned asset classes
    • While it expected that the candidate will be able to contribute across multiple asset classes as a generalist, we are seeking an individual that will be able to focus specifically on the area of fixed income
  • Performing risk analysis on third party investment products
  • Coordinating manager investment reporting, and interacting with trust and custody team
  • Preparing reporting package for oversight committee, as well as providing support for needed regulatory compliance activities

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of advanced asset experience
  • 7+ years of investment experience

  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment

Other Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years of 401k/pension analytical experience
  • Experience performing qualitative and quantitative analysis, including statistical and performance analytics on investments
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate financial data
  • 3+ years of advanced investment manager research analysis experience
  • 5+ years of general investment experience involving either direct portfolio management related activities or evaluation of investment managers within an institutional money management framework
  • Strong working knowledge of fixed income investment management related details
  • Hands-on manager due diligence experience including facilitating in-person strategy review meetings with senior investment personnel
  • Experience performing qualitative and quantitative analysis, including statistical and performance analytics on investments with the ability to evaluate multiple data points related to investment performance information and formulate concise conclusions
  • Familiarity with industry applications used for manager research and analytics including programs such as Morningstar Direct, Zephyr/Informa StyleAdvisor, eVestment, Factset, etc.
  • Proven analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate financial data
  • Defined contribution plan administration familiarity or direct experience
  • Trust & custody operational experience either first hand or as a client of the services
  • Experience in interacting with legal representatives on ERISA specific matters and/or investment management agreement negotiation
  • Experience in servicing and reporting to institutional clients regarding investment matters associated with qualified retirement plans
