This Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for process improvement as well as new process design and implementation throughout manufacturing. Manufacturing includes CNC machining, EDM and metal forming as well as coating application and assembly. An individual in this position will have the authority to implement change and drive rapid improvement. The ideal candidate should be hands-on, entrepreneurial, and be able to continuously identify opportunities beyond those already identified. This position will be joining the Thomson team in Fremont, CA. Thomson is part of Altra (AIMC).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify waste in manufacturing processes
  • Prioritize opportunities based on impact to business (savings & commercial value vs. implementation cost)
  • Drive continuous improvement toward one piece flow manufacturing on a daily basis (make changes & measure results)
  • Manage larger planned process development projects to schedule
  • Develop new process solutions that are optimized for one piece flow (lean) manufacturing
  • Design in quality and use tools such as Poke Yoke
  • Work collaboratively with the Thomson team to develop and implement processes

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong manufacturing engineering experience with emphasis on lean manufacturing implementation
  • 2+ years' experience in similar engineering role; 5+ years preferred
  • BSME or BSIE degree required

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Solid understanding of basic manufacturing processes (e.g. CNC mill, lathe, EDM, roll forming etc.)
  • Demonstrated success developing creative solutions to reduce process waste
  • Capable of working with outside resources such as suppliers & industry experts to find a solution
  • Ability to utilize CAD/CAM tools (e.g. Solidworks, ProE)
  • Good communication skills
  • Self-motivated team player
  • Able to juggle multiple priorities
  • Hands on approach, willing to "roll up the sleeves"
