Robert Half is working with an outstanding client in Walnut Creek who is seeking a paralegal with 5 years to join their team. This paralegal will support two attorneys.
This paralegal will perform all duties related to preparation for and assistance in working a case up to trial; from pretrial, trial and post-trial activities, including but not limited to focusing on technology as well as conducting extensive research and document preparation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Summarize depositions, medical records, employment records, interrogatory responses, and prepare production of document requests
- Draft objections; requests and responses; review and analysis of evidentiary items for trial; manage documents from formal discovery to present at time of trial
- Familiar with discovery methods and scope of discovery, with emphasis on ethical considerations involved in the discovery process.
- Prepare, troubleshoot, and assist with all technological aspects of demonstrative evidence for trials, including but not limited to software and equipment
- E-files in state courts
- Calendar court dates
- Travel to and from court or arbitration/trial to assist attorney and provide set up for demonstrative evidence and technology
- Create exhibits and other visual trial presentations as requested. Set up audio/visual equipment for court/arbitration hearings
- Assist attorneys in all aspects of trial preparation, including abstracting depositions and transcripts, draft motions, prepare trial notebooks and briefs
- Assist with the drafting of discovery pleadings and cost bills
- Assist with research and analysis of statute and case law
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience:
- AA degree, Bachelor’s degree preferred
- ABA approved paralegal certificate preferred
- Experience Trial Director and/or Sanctions preferred;
- Background in medical malpractice litigation with a minimum of five years’ litigation experience
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in MS PowerPoint
- Knowledge of court rules and procedures is necessary
- Knowledge of medicine, bio-medical terminology and tort law related to personal injury
- Computer proficiency, excellent communication skills both oral and written
