Job Description:

Seeking for an intermediate level position with a 2-5 years of experience for Mechanical Piping Designer who is highly motivated to join our SFO team in San Ramon, CA. The Piping Designer will be responsible for the preparation of engineering drawings for the Refining, Utilities, Gas Transmission, and  Petrochemical industries by utilizing MicroStation, AutoCAD, and CADWorx. In close cooperation with the engineering department team, the Piping Designer will produce detailed drawings, including as-builts, schematics, flow diagrams, P&ID's and piping drawings with the highest level of details, quality, cost effectiveness, and focus on safety. The candidate must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work with other design disciplines and across Design Group offices. 

Job Requirements:  

  • Work closely with senior piping designer and multi-discipline engineers to assist team with detail design/drafting portion of the projects utilizing MicroStation/AutoCAD/CADWorx. 

  • Assist in developing detailed engineering drawings that meet company and client standards.   

  • Assist senior piping designer and engineers with field conditional assessments and data gathering. 

  • Interfaces with on-site and remote cross-functional project teams. 

  • Review vendor document submittals. 

  • Assist with developing cost and schedule estimates for project proposals. 

Skills & Qualifications:  

  • 2-5 years of experience in the Oil & Gas, Utilities, Petrochemical and related Industries is preferred. 

  • Ability to assist senior designer with developing rough design sketches, design standards, detailed piping design from P&IDs and Equipment GA drawings with a high level of accuracy and efficiency utilizing MicroStation/AutoCAD/CADWorx for 3D modeling. 

  • Bentley MicroStation knowledge is highly desired. 

  • Make drawing and 3D model changes, corrections and modifications as directed by senior designers. 

  • Assist senior designers in pipe design work at the project site, such as preparing hand drawn sketches, field walk-downs, taking field measurements, and assisting with assessments for as-built/as-found packages.  

  • Perform routine tasks under close supervision using well-defined standards and procedures. 

  • Some selection and application of established and specific procedures may be required. 

  • Ability to assist with design components or portions of systems and modify existing designs to develop or improve them. 

  • Ability to support documents: creating project drawing lists, drawings check out’s/ check-in’s, and coordination with document control.  

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. 

  • Good organizational skills and time management skills are necessary. 

  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 

  • Must be highly motivated, self-starter individual with the ability to identify problems and work creatively to support engineering team. 

  • Qualified applicants will have a strong attention to detail, multi-tasking and prioritizing needed work. 

  • Must demonstrate professionalism necessary to be in a client facing role. 

  • Must currently hold or be willing and eligible to obtain a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).   

Education 

  • Technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited designer/drafter curriculum. 

  • Continued learning courses and/or software certifications are preferred. 

Travel 

  • Travel may be required to commute to our clients’ sites, interact with other Design Group offices, and other intermittent business needs. The combined travel required to support this role is estimated to be 15 to 30%.
