Job Description
The Principal Bioinformatics and Data Scientist is a highly motivated bioinformatician and data scientist who has experience in conducting computational analyses of clinical and multi-omics data sets to identify potential predictive, prognostic and pharmacodynamic biomarkers.

The Principal Bioinformatics and Data Scientist is a highly motivated bioinformatician and data scientist who has experience in conducting computational analyses of clinical and multi-omics data sets to identify potential predictive, prognostic and pharmacodynamic biomarkers.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Analyze genomic, cellular, and targeted proteomic biomarker data collected from clinical trials and correlate with clinical outcomes
- Collaborate with discovery, clinical translational medicine scientists and preclinical translational pharmacology scientists to develop an early biomarker strategy
- Support clinical translational data analysis and data management and serve as data science lead for clinical studies
- Maintain internal data base of clinical biomarker data (e.g. flow cytometry, next-generation sequencing, gene expression, IHC and immunoassays)
- Perform independent data analyses and provide timely delivery of results with input on analysis goals from translational medicine study team leads
- Present analysis results internally and externally in medical conferences and publish in high quality scientific and medical journals

Education
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- PhD in the Computational Biology discipline or related discipline and a minimum of five years of related experience; or,
- Master’s in Computational Biology or a related discipline and a minimum of 11 years of related experience; or,
- Bachelor’s in Computational Biology or a related discipline and a minimum of 13 years of related experience; or,
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience/The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience with advanced data analysis tools and approaches in in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries
- PhD preferred
Knowledge/Skills
- Skilled in different programming languages (e.g. R, Matlab, Python), database languages (e.g., MySQL), and software programs (e.g. Spotfire, Tableau, JMP)
- Skilled in managing and analyzing large genomic datasets from preclinical and clinical studies as well as public genomic databases (e.g. TCGA, dbGAP).
- Ability to integrate data from multiple sources for comprehensive analyses
- Applied knowledge of different biomarker approaches such as genomics, IHC, flow cytometry and targeted proteomics
- Can apply big data analysis tools and advanced data analysis techniques including different machine learning approaches
- Ability to analyze and interpret biomarker data and correlate with oncology clinical trial outcomes
- Works well in team setting
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Discovery/Alameda
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Environment: office work from remote location
- Travel involves quarterly visits to Exelixis sites and attending 1-2 conferences per year.
