Job Summary

Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.

Department Description

The Adult Medical Surgical Intensive Care unit (ICU) at the Mount Zion Campus provides specialized care to a wide variety of critically ill patients who have undergone surgical interventions and/or have acute medical needs.

Typically, the patients cared for in this unit are critically ill patients who are recovering from a variety of surgical interventions from multiple service lines. In addition the ICU, provides treatment for our medical patients who are in need of respiratory isolation or other acute medical needs. The Mount Zion ICU was reopened in April 2020 to support our new COVID medical patient population.

The ICU has a dedicated nursing and provider team who are focused on providing excellent and safe patient care. When patients arrive to the ICU needing critical interventions, the ultimate goal is to stabilize the patient's condition and to promote wellness through the continuum of care. By supporting and empowering the patient and family, the ICU nursing staff ensures a positive progression in the patient's recovery. The entire medical team is always focused on promoting patient independence and self-care.

Required Qualifications

  • Two years of Adult Medical Surgical ICU clinical RN experience
  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Active American Heart Association ACLS Certification
  • The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent RN clinical experience in an academic medical center


  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
